Residential Recovery Program
What is Peer-to-Peer Addiction Recovery?
Experience has shown us that the power of one addict helping another through the process of recovery is unparalleled.
The Transformations program operates on a ‘Therapeutic Community Model’ where residents of the community are encouraged and supported to
run the day-to-day program, mentor each other, support each other, and confront one another’s destructive behaviors.
Through this model, the community is the principal means of promoting personal change to make lasting recovery possible.
Benefits of Peer-to-Peer Recovery
"In a therapeutic community, there is a focus on social, psychological and behavioral dimensions of substance use,
with the use of the community to heal individuals emotionally, and support the development of behaviors, attitudes
and values of healthy living” (Definition taken from Australasian Therapeutic Communities Association website).
The Therapeutic Community as a method feels like family and relational rather than institutional or clinical.
The TC family teaches individuals about themselves through intense experiences and encourages residents to develop empathy,
responsibility, self-respect and respect for others. While structured therapeutic groups are a part of the TC,
much of the actual transformation happens by working together, living together, relaxing together, problem-solving,
communicating with and teaching each other.
All aspects of the Transformations Program experience are foundational in establishing an individual’s identity and
directing them towards independence to manage their recovery after leaving the program.
